The Transient Universe - Professor Carolin Crawford
Time Domain Astronomy is astronomy in four dimensions and its allowing us to unpick the largest and quickest celestial events in never before considered ways: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and... Many disparate phenomena in both the local and the distant Universe have properties which are time-variable, and constant monitoring of the sky at all wavelengths is required to catch the occurrence of these events. Observations of the transient Universe cover all of modern astrophysics – from variable stars to unusual and violent events such as gamma-ray bursts. The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College Website: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and... Gresham College has offered free public lectures for over 400 years, thanks to the generosity of our supporters. There are currently over 2,500 lectures free to access. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn from some of the greatest minds. To support Gresham's mission, please consider making a donation: https://gresham.ac.uk/support/
