We grow properly and well spiritually if we have an increasing knowledge of Scripture (1) and an increasing personal experience with the Lord (God's power) (2). A lack of knowledge of Scripture and a personal experience of God's power can lead to error. "Jesus answered and said to them, 'You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God'" (Matthew 22:29). It is important to have a balance of knowledge of Scripture and supernatural personal experience that does not contradict Scripture. Those who neglect knowledge of Scripture can become lost. Self-discipline helps us be filled with wisdom through regular study of Scripture and have a personal experience of God's power through personal prayer. A Christian is one who has personal theoretical knowledge (of Scripture), confirmed by personal spiritual supernatural experience (a reasonable balance: knowledge of Scripture and the power of God).
