Willie Banks M60 American record in triple jump

Willie Banks reached 12.51 meters (41 feet 0 1/2 inch) in the triple jump on his second try at the Pasadena Senior Games on June 4, 2016, at Caltech. The former elite world-record holder's first and fourth jumps also exceeded the listed American record for men 60-64 of 11.96 (39-3) by the late Tom Patsalis in 1982. Banks had a goal of beating the age-group world record of 12.68 (41-7 1/4) by Stig Bäcklund in 2000. A half-hour after the triple jump, Banks entered the high jump in progress and won another gold with a clearance of 1.71 meters (5-7 1/4) — just under his recent American record of 1.73 meters (5-8). He concluded his day with three failed attempts at a world record 1.82 meters (5-11 1/2). Mike Powell, who set the world record in the long jump (29-4 1/2) at Tokyo IAAF worlds in 1991, cheered Banks during his triple jump tries.
