He began rebelling in junior high school, and after joining a motorcycle gang, embarked on the path to becoming a yakuza. He achieved great success as a yakuza, but was framed in an FBI sting operation in Hawaii and spent over 10 years in prison, moving between prisons in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oregon, and elsewhere. After his release, he launched an apparel brand and led Japan's Chicano boom. Drawing on his experiences and learnings in American prisons, he founded the volunteer group "Good Family," now incorporated as an NPO. He has also given numerous lectures as a youth development counselor. His previous works include "KEI: The Japanese Who Became a Chicano" and "The Japanese Who Survived America's Most Brutal Prisons" (both published by Tokyo Kirara Publishing), and he continues to write and serialize "Chicano KEI" (published by Akita Shoten) in Bessatsu Young Champion, and has also released a book.
