How to Install a Third Hard Drive on my ASUS ROG G75VW Laptop
Learn how to swap the optical drive in the laptop and replace it with an internal hard drive. It's easy and convenient! A similar process works on other laptops. With the increase in file sizes and often difficulty finding files to get rid of on your mobile computer, getting an additional storage unit is very important. An external or local-network drive is fine if you don't move with your computer a lot (typically inside your home or office). But if you travel often (or have kids/pets around who like pulling things), then getting an internal storage unit makes more sense. In my case, I was running out of space on my laptop, an ASUS G75VW Republic of Gamers portable desktop machine. Since I haven't used the Blue-Ray tray for several years, it only made sense to experiment with it. NOTE: The same video will also apply for adding or replacing RAM, Hard Drives 1 and 2, as well as to basic info on cleaning your system fans and filters. You can also use this tutorial if you wish to replace a damaged optical disk drive with a new one. THE HARDWARE on Amazon: Western Digital Black HDD: https://goo.gl/iv5Y3z GENERIC CADDY: https://goo.gl/j5qMCC The new hard drive I am using for the upgrade is a Western Digital Black 7200RPM with 32MB cache. The converting caddy is just a generic converting tray that you can find on Amazon for under $10usd. My specific variant is 12.7mm, which fits perfectly snug inside my laptop drive bay. So, check your specs before buying this or the 9.5mm variant... though the process will be the same. For other laptop brands, makes and models, the process is similar. The above-mentioned caddy converter will work, as long as your laptop uses SATA I, II or III. My G75VW uses SATA-III for up to 6Gbps R/W speeds. I don't know if they still make one for much older pre-sata laptops. Thank you for watching! We will be posting more videos with tutorials and reviews, etc., as soon as time from work on other projects allows. Video Editing was done on the upgraded laptop in this video, to test the new hardware, and I am impressed at how well it works.
