We can distance ourselves from the passions that thoughts awaken. Our culture largely determines what we think. It invites us to consider that thoughts can shape "my" truth, but they are not necessarily "the" truth. Observing the limits of our rationality can open us to a broader conception of reality. It is not about discarding thoughts, but rather using them as an instrument of the soul.
