La Lumière de la nuit | French New Wave Short Film (English Subtitles)

A petty thief hides from the police in the home of an eccentric actress who has disappeared from the limelight. Starring Mary-Alice Farina and Max Boddorff. Directed by Jordan Lannan. Produced by Austin Mulhern, Kevin Boyle, and Jordan Lannan. Original score by Anthony Guidotti. This film was shot in one day, and improvised by both the cast and the crew. Only working from a basic story outline, the actors crafted their own dialogue on the spot, and the director and cinematographer went in with no shot sheet or storyboards. (We also used natural light for all shots but one.) The goal was to capture the look, feel, and spontaneous spirit of French New Wave cinema. None of the crew spoke or understood French, so there was a huge level of trust and collaboration with our fantastic actors. The unstructured and spontaneous creative spirit on set was a refreshing alternative to standard production. Sometimes it's a lot of fun to break the rules.
