Lezioni di storia 2017 (pt.10) - Andrea Giardina
#historicmuseum #historylab #historylessons HISTORY LESSONS 2017 episode 10 ANDREA GIARDINA Rome created a Mediterranean empire, and the East became part of the Roman world. But it was, and always remained, a plural East, encompassing countries like Egypt, Palestine, Syria, and Turkey alongside the Greek presence in Asia Minor, the Aegean, and the continent. A sense of familiarity induced by the integration of so many different cultures combined with a restless fascination with the exotic. Andrea Giardina is Professor of Roman History at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, President of the Central Council for Historical Studies, a member of the Accademia dei Lincei, and President of the Comité international des sciences historiques. He has worked primarily on the social, political, and institutional history of the Roman world, the history of modern historiography, and the history of the fortunes of antiquity in the contemporary age.
