Six Musical Scenes

This work is based on a rather bizarre and disturbed unpublished novel by a friend that begins with the predicted death of the protagonist and the resulting apathy that follows. 0:00 I. From the fated death of the protagonist to the ultimate fate of those that try to extend what little they have. Does knowing one’s fate determine how one should live? Is it a prison or freedom that this knowledge gives? II. Worthless The feeling of trying and yet never making it to what you hope to accomplish. This work features obsessive motives, much like the intrusive thoughts that rob slumber and refuse all attempts to dissuade them. How many times must one try before failure is the only outcome? III. Home The memory of home. When moving far away both in space, time, or perhaps crying out for something never felt. This is about the melancholy of desire and the bittersweetness of wanting to return. IV. Drifting One solution to the knowledge of the end is to let it come. Do not end things early but rather let things happen and do the bear minimum until it is over. That is the solution approached by the protagonist reflected here in aimless motion and half-hearted gestures. V. Reunion Reminiscing upon the past. Two friends or new acquaintances speak of those they know and those that can longer return. A scene about coming to peace with reality even when irreplaceable moments have been lost. VI. Fading All things fade. It may be sought or delayed but still the rule remains. Recorded June 20th 2026 on a Yamaha C5x grand piano.
