There's something God wants to say today to that part of you that walks with its gaze downcast: you will raise your head. Maybe you don't tell anyone, but inside you carry shame. Something you did, and you can't forgive yourself. Something that happened to you, and that left you wounded. A failure that feels like a condemnation. And since then, you've walked a little more stooped, as if you had to apologize for existing. I want to tell you something important right away: there's a huge difference between guilt and shame. Guilt says, "I did something wrong." Shame says, "I am something wrong." And shame lies. It tells you that you are beyond repair, that you don't deserve anything good. But what you did, or what was done to you, is not your identity. In this message, you'll discover how Jesus called a man who was hiding by name (Zacchaeus), how he spoke to a woman without scorning her (the Samaritan woman at the well), how a king seated at his table someone who thought he was "a dead dog" (Mephibosheth), and how he raised up those who had failed in the most painful way (Peter, on the shore). And if the shame you bear stems from something you've suffered, listen carefully: that shame was never yours. It was placed upon you by others. And it doesn't belong to you. There's a hand that rests under your chin, gently lifting it. You are seen, and you are not rejected.
