Tonico Benites – Culturas indígenas (2017)

Educator and anthropologist Tonico Benites, from the Guarani Kaiowá people, talks about the representations of indigenous issues by the media and textbooks, and questions how to deconstruct the way indigenous people are presented in Brazil. Tonico addresses the transformation of the resources available to his people before the increasing deforestation and after the arrival of non-indigenous people in the region, along with industrialized products. He also comments on the spirituality of the Guarani people and the relationship between time and rituals. Testimony recorded during the event Mekukradjá – Circle of Knowledge: Language, Land and Territory, in October 2017, in São Paulo (SP).
