A memorial service to commemorate the victims of the Sewol Ferry disaster will be held today at Hwarang Park in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, marking the 10th anniversary of the tragedy. According to the 4·16 Foundation, the "10th Anniversary Memorial Service for the Sewol Ferry Disaster" will take place at 3:00 PM at Parking Lot 3 of Hwarang Park in Ansan. Held under the theme of "Remembrance, Promise, and Responsibility of April 16, 2014," the ceremony will feature a moment of silence, eulogies, and the reading of letters of remembrance, attended by over 100 bereaved family members and mourners. Gyeonggi Province will also sound a memorial siren for one minute starting at 4:16 PM in the vicinity of the Danwon-gu Office in Ansan. Memorial services will also be held on this day at the Sewol Ferry Memorial Space in Seoul, the Memorial Hall for Civilian Victims in Incheon, the Daejeon National Cemetery, and in front of the Sewol ferry hull in Mokpo. In addition, a memorial service will be held on board the ship to commemorate the victims in the waters near Donggeochado, Jodo-myeon, Jindo-gun, South Jeolla Province (Maenggol Strait), the site where the hull sank. A memorial cultural event will also be held at Mokpo New Port, where the hull is currently berthed.
