Mata Mata Camp - Kgalagadi

Note: the falcon identified as Amur Falcon in this video is actually a Lanner Falcon. Similar in looks but a different bird. Mata Mata rest camp in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park was our second stop during our all too short visit to Kgalagadi. It is a quaint little camp situated on the banks of the Auob riverbed and hosts a beautiful variety of birdlife. We were treated to sightings of Crimson Breasted Shrikes and Namaqua Doves in abundance in and around the camp and entertained by flocks of Namaqua Sand Grouse and many different raptors on the road from Twee Rivieren to Mata Mata. There are great waterholes in close proximity to the camp and we found Viertiende Boorgat and Dertiende Boorgat to be the most productive (though this changes off course). A very comfortable camp with a clean, well maintained swimming pool among its facilities, and a well-shaded campsite with electricity points available. All in all, we enjoyed our short stay at Mata Mata and would recommend it to visitors to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
