[VLOG] 😎 UN WEEK-END A LA GRAVIERE DU FORT - HOLTZHEIM

We're back with this vlog for a weekend getaway to explore a famous gravel pit that's been generating a lot of buzz on social media. It's called La Gravière du Fort in Holtzheim, near Strasbourg. (In Alsace, for your information.) Don't ask me about the history of this gravel pit; my research has been fruitless. However, I could tell you about the groundwater that runs through the Alsatian plateau and supplies several gravel pits in the region. But first, what exactly is a "gravel pit"? Well, it's quite simple! Gravel is to a gravel pit what marble or limestone is to a quarry. We've already told you about Lac des Ciments (Cement Lake), a former limestone quarry, also flooded by groundwater. Well, at La Gravière du Fort, it's more or less the same principle. Having dived in several freshwater sinkholes, I must admit that this gravel pit truly stands out thanks to its atmosphere, its unique characteristics, and its exceptional flora and fauna. It feels like diving in a freshwater aquarium. And when I say atmosphere, I mean both below the surface and in the interstitial spaces!
