Why coverage for genome sequencing rose from 28% to 66%

GeneDx was awarded Best Abstract at the 2026 PLUGS Summit (Patient-centered Laboratory Utilization Guidance Services) for the poster: "From Evidence to Access: A Year of Progress in Exome and Genome Sequencing Payor Coverage." Sarah Soto and Rashelle Kukukn presented their research on exome and genome sequencing payor coverage at the summit. The numbers tell the story: over the past year, Medicaid coverage for genome sequencing more than doubled — from 28% to 66% of enrollees. Exome coverage among Medicaid enrollees grew from 49% to 70%. On the commercial side, genome sequencing coverage rose from 39% to 51%. Today, 38 states have Medicaid coverage for outpatient exome and/or genome sequencing. This is the kind of progress that changes access for real families — and it directly supports conversations our teams are having with payors, health systems, and providers every day. Sarah, Donna, and Kate also represented GeneDx at our booth, engaging with payors and health systems from across the country. Read more here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/schplu...
