Der Stamm bricht dreimal – und ich gestalte weiter | Weigelie als Bonsai

Can you really make a bonsai out of a weigela? In this video, I attempt exactly that experiment – and it's proving more difficult than expected. I'm shaping a weigela, which I propagated from a cutting over ten years ago, into a cascade. The problem: The plant is extremely brittle and anything but easy to style. While bending and shaping it, the main stem breaks three times. Nevertheless, I persevere. For me, this tree was an experiment from the very beginning, not valuable raw material. That's precisely why I wanted to explore what's even possible with such a plant. The weigela is severely pruned, styled with improvisation, and ultimately developed into a cascade practically through its broken branches. Is that sensible? Perhaps not. Will the weigela survive? In my experience, yes – it can often heal such wounds. Is this a textbook example? Certainly not. But that's exactly what makes this video so compelling: an honest styling attempt where not everything goes smoothly. If you see bonsai not just as perfect exhibition pieces, but also as a learning experience, a chance to experiment, and sometimes even to accept failure, then you've come to the right place. Let me know in the comments: Would you have stopped after the first break, or at the latest after the third – or would you have continued? 00:00 Intro 00:31 Preliminary discussion of the tree 06:13 Cutting & Wiring 12:31 Bending & Breaking 23:10 Outro #bonsai #weigela #cascade #bonsaidesign #bonsaiexperiment
