Eduardo Rojas, a forestry engineer and professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, commented on the Los Gallardos fire (Almería) and stated that the key question is "why the fire spread so rapidly." The expert explained that Almería is a region that "was deforested 50 years ago; now there is more vegetation, much forest has recovered through conservation efforts, but the fire spread because agriculture and livestock farming have been abandoned." Rojas also pointed out that in situations like a wildfire, people "are better off staying indoors than going out to the emergency": "It's much safer."
