#Live Automotive Chamber Rejects Intention to Legalize “Unregistered Vehicles,” Requests Meeting with Government The vice president of the Bolivian Automotive Chamber (CAB), Erick Saavedra, expressed his rejection of the bill currently before the Legislative Assembly that proposes the nationalization of undocumented or “unregistered” vehicles. “It’s sad to hear that they want to nationalize something illegal,” Saavedra stated, noting that such a measure would create uncertainty for those who acquired vehicles legally and pay their taxes. “What will happen to the value of cars that pay taxes?” he questioned. The sector representative indicated that the CAB seeks to engage in dialogue with the government to present alternatives. “We want to talk with the government. The government must listen to our proposals,” he affirmed. He also indicated that the sector has requested a meeting with executive branch authorities. “We have requested a meeting with the government, but they haven’t responded,” he declared. Saavedra added that among the proposals put forward by the Chamber is the promotion of vehicles that run on ethanol. "We have proposed vehicles that run on 100% ethanol," he stated. Regarding the revenue that a potential nationalization could generate, he maintained that the figures being circulated do not reflect reality. "The $6 billion in revenue from nationalization is a lie. The $6 billion in revenue from undocumented vehicles is a lie. The $6 billion in revenue from undocumented vehicles is not real," he affirmed. Furthermore, he expressed that the regularization of undocumented vehicles would have negative effects. "You can't build a society with stolen goods," he pointed out. He also stated that "we are in a post-war economy" and that such a measure "will be detrimental."
