The Truth Behind the ‘Hitler DNA Study’ Making Headlines | Blueprint of a Dictator | @HistoryCalling

What does a new analysis of Hitler’s DNA, presented in a Channel 4 documentary called Hitler’s DNA: Blueprint of a Dictator, tell us about arguably the most evil man in history and how trustworthy are the results? In this review video from History Calling I look at the claims made in this show and discuss what it tells us about Hitler, what it doesn’t and why some of those involved are now trying to walk back their participation a little and stating that the documentary makers left out valuable information and misrepresented other results. We’ll look at what we know about Hitler’s death in a bunker in Berlin in 1945 alongside his wife, Eva Braun, what happened to Hitler’s body and the story that an American soldier called Lieutenant Colonel Roswell P. Rosengren later cut a blood-soaked swatch out of the sofa on which the dictator died. This swatch is now in the Gettysburg Museum of History and is the source of the Hitler blood sample used in the documentary. I’ll tell you what the documentary (which is co-presented by Professor Turi King) says about how reliable its provenance is, how they know the blood is Hitler’s, what conditions and illnesses the geneticists who analysed it suggest he might have had, from ADHD to autism to psychopathy, to Kallmann syndrome and the incredible information which the production team opted to leave out of the show, but which helps to dispel a huge conspiracy theory about Hitler’s death. You’ll also hear why many people and institutions would not be involved with this research and why so much criticism has been levelled at the decision to analyse Adolf Hitler’s DNA.
