12. Navigating Treatment Sequencing • Dr. Pamela Kunz • Yale Medicine • 2026 NCF Conference
In this session from the Neuroendocrine Cancer Foundation’s 2026 Virtual Annual Patient Conference, Dr. Pamela Kunz, medical oncologist at Yale School of Medicine and Yale Cancer Center, presents “Navigating Treatment Sequencing.” Dr. Kunz explains how treatment sequencing helps identify the right treatment at the right time for people with neuroendocrine tumors and neuroendocrine carcinomas. She discusses how treatment plans may change over time and why decisions are often guided by factors such as functional status, primary tumor site, disease stage, tumor volume, differentiation, grade, somatostatin receptor status, patient goals, and quality of life. This presentation reviews major treatment categories, including somatostatin analogs, radioligand therapies, targeted therapies, chemotherapy, liver-directed therapy, surgery, observation, and clinical trials. Dr. Kunz also explains how treatment sequencing differs for neuroendocrine tumors and neuroendocrine carcinomas, and highlights the importance of shared decision-making, multidisciplinary care, and asking whether a clinical trial may be appropriate.
