This Czerny Etude Should Not Be This Beautiful

Carl Czerny Op. 299, School of Velocity, is usually treated as dry finger training — but this etude shows something very different. In this video, I play and explore one of Czerny’s most beautiful studies: a five-finger exercise that becomes lyrical, inventive, and surprisingly musical. We look at how Czerny combines technical training with melody, rhetoric, tension and release — and why his music deserves far more attention than it usually gets today. The Kickstarter campaign for our complete recording of Czerny’s School of Velocity is still running.
