😱 HOE DAN?! Ze deden dit al ruim 800 jaar geleden...

🤯 How on earth did they build this more than 900 years ago? Today we experience our last full day in Cambodia and visit the impressive Angkor area again. But this time, we are going to a much quieter and more remote temple, where the jungle is slowly reclaiming the ancient ruins. As we walk among gigantic stone blocks, collapsed galleries, and enormous tree roots, one question keeps running through our minds all day... 🪨 How did the Khmer manage to get sandstone blocks of perhaps 20 tons to exactly the right spot dozens of kilometers away, without modern machinery? We investigate the purpose of the mysterious holes in the stones, examine impressive construction techniques, and try to understand how one of the greatest structures in history ever came into being. But this episode consists of much more than just temples. Along the way, we encounter begging children and explain why aid organizations actually advise against giving money. Afterwards, we see a colorful Cambodian funeral procession pass by from the taxi and get acquainted with local traditions. Of course, food is not to be missed. We have lunch by the roadside among the locals, enjoying grilled fish, chicken, and stuffed frog with curry. Then we drive past vast lotus fields before arriving at the famous Bayon Temple, known for its mysterious 200 stone faces. We conclude the day at the impressive Elephant Terrace, where centuries ago the Khmer kings looked out over military parades and important ceremonies. A day full of history, culture, special encounters, and questions to which perhaps no one knows the real answer. 👇 Let us know in the comments: How do you think the Khmer transported and placed these gigantic stones more than 900 years ago? 👍 Did you like this episode?
