Journey to Akha Ama Coffee: Lee Ayu Chuepa at TEDxChiangMai 2013

Lee Ayu Chuepa (ลี อายุ จือปา) is the Co-founder of Akha Ama Coffee (ผู้ร่วมก่อตั้ง กาแฟ AKHA AMA) a 'fair-trade' coffee that has won international awards. Lee was born and brought up in Mae Chan Tai, an Akha village in Chiang Rai Province. "I'd never been to the city as a kid," says Lee, "but I told my parents I wanted to study." And so Lee went on a journey that took him to a temple in Lamphun, where he learned to speak Thai and some English, and later he became the first from his village to attend university. Lee finished high school, becoming a member of various youth groups and organisations in Chiang Mai including UNICEF before he went on to study English at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University. But Lee had a dream of his own, and after receiving a social entrepreneurship grant he started Akha Ahma coffee in 2010.
