Since the start of 2025, the dollar has fallen by around 10 percent, marking its worst start of the year since 1973. Does this depreciation reflect ordinary cyclical developments, the long-awaited correction to the country’s persistent trade deficits, or a more fundamental undermining of the dollar’s dominant role in the global financial system?
