But the Dead Sea has a different reality: the water is receding, the shore is receding, and the ground next to the sea is sinking underfoot. In this documentary, we travel to the Dead Sea—the lowest point on land on the planet. Here, saltwater pushes people to the surface, the white shores are covered in salt, and underground, salt layers are dissolving. Because of this, sinkholes appear along the coast, old beaches are closed, roads are being rebuilt, and entire neighborhoods are becoming dangerous. We'll show life by the Dead Sea in Israel: Ein Gedi, Ein Bokek, Route 90, salt banks, desert cliffs, closed beaches, hot greenhouses, mineral spas, and the people who continue to live and work next to a sea that recedes every year. Technology and AI: The visuals combine archival photos and videos with AI-generated images to visualize the coastline, old beaches, salt fissures, karst sinkholes, desert cliffs, closed infrastructure, greenhouses, spas, and the daily life of people at the Dead Sea, which are not always captured in sufficient quality on video or are inaccessible for safe filming.
